Ava's Unicorn
Ten-year-old Ava has a rare condition called aplastic anemia and is recovering from a bone marrow transplant. She participated in the project several times, and this piece was done at the Jimmy Everest Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Ava's stuffed unicorn goes with her everywhere, and she tore this portrait as she carefully studied the well-loved stuffed animal who had accompanied her to her clinic appointment.
